Why are you interested in serving on the board of Bloomington Cooperative Services (BCS)?

"Bloomingfoods has been a big part of my world for years! I am a former employee of the co-op and would like to continue to serve in another capacity."

What experience or involvement have you had with Bloomingfoods or other cooperatives?

"I'm an active member, and worked for Bloomingfoods for 6 years at both the store and administration levels. I worked in the deli, as a cashier, as the owner services coordinator, and the board administrator. I am quite familiar with policy governance and the structure and function of the Bloomingfoods board, so board service will be an easy transition for me."

What has been your experience working cooperatively with small groups of people?

"I love being part of teams! I have seen wonderful things come out of diverse groups of people putting their heads together and accomplishing their goals. Of course, mutual respect and the desire to take other viewpoints into account must be present for successful outcomes."

Please share any professional, volunteer, or life experience you have had that will provide insight when serving on the BCS Board of Directors. Include knowledge, skills, formal training, and education that will contribute to the mission of our co-op.

"I have a college education as well as an extensive customer service and administrative background. I've learned a little bit about everything from point of sale systems to financial margins to marketing to category management. I've planned co-op events and administered special co-op programs, my favorite being the Positive Change round up campaign."

How do your values and lifestyle align with the values and mission of the co-op?

"I choose to support small, locally owned businesses because a strong local economy and community is important to me. Bloomingfoods is a business created by everyday folks for the purpose of meeting the needs of everyday folks right here in Indiana, not shareholders in other states. I believe it's a cause worth supporting!"

Given the stated Ends of BCS, what do you see as the primary role of BCS in the community?

"I believe Bloomingfoods' main priority is to demonstrate why small, locally-owned businesses are vital to our communities and enhance our lives. Bloomingfoods can be more than just a grocery store, it can inspire our community!"

What are opportunities and challenges you see for BCS in the future expression of these Ends?

"It seems inevitable that Bloomingfoods will continue to face competition and sales challenges. The co-op will need to work hard to attract a wide variety of shoppers, and be sure to meet the needs of those that come in the door. This is a great opportunity to stand out and really sell the co-op for what it is - a cooperatively-owned and operated, community-focused business."

Please share any other brief statement that you feel is important regarding your potential service as a member of our board.

"Achieving optimal health and performance through nutrition and a cleaner lifestyle is a passion of mine, and I have spent countless hours devouring books and articles learning about everything from gardening to special diets to footwear. Did you know crickets are a sustainable source of protein? Ever consider adding mushroom powder to your coffee for a nutritional upgrade? I believe the board of Bloomingfoods could use a person with the right mix of energy, knowledge, toughness, and creativity, and I'd like to be that person."
